Abstract

It has been over ten years after the 2007-2008 financial crisis, which led the world to the Great Recession. It is critical to take a review of the 2008 financial crisis from a long-term perspective. In this project, we revisit the financial crisis, analyze the causes, and discuss the lessons learned and adjustments in the aftermath. We specifically focus on the mortgage and housing market since it was the beginning of the crisis. We examine the new regulations and changes on the mortgage and housing market after the crisis and evaluate the performance of those markets. The new legislation issued by the U.S. government, the reactions and monetary policies used by the FED, and the new creations of federal agencies are also discussed in our project. Finally, we investigate the housing market in the past decade and measure the risks level. This research project provides an excellent opportunity to assess the lessons learned from the Great Recession.
