Abstract

Students with special needs were disproportionately impacted by the closing of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The result was a major change in their daily routines, which disrupted their coping mechanisms. According to a February 2021 report by the NYC Department of Education, up to 29% of students did not receive special education services in some schools. In addition, only 66% received some of these services. Now that students are back in-person, they are learning to adapt again. 2DO 2DAY is a mobile app created for high school students that shares their daily schedules and needs/accommodations with their teachers and parents. The schedules are created by the students with visual icons and pictures for each task. This makes it an easy process for all students to understand, especially if they are non-verbal and cannot communicate like the majority of people. The purpose of 2DO 2DAY is to help develop students' daily schedules, create wellness check-ins, and identify IEP needs to help them transition to the classroom as easily as possible.
